Tagline: Temptation is a dish best served hot…

Series Name: Delicious Desires #2

Blurb:

Event planner Daisy Robles can’t remember a time when celebrity restaurateur―and celebrated playboy―Brandon Montoya didn’t make her nuts. His infuriating arrogance, his hotness…his undeniable sexual energy. One night and a whole lot of expensive tequila later, Daisy’s self-control is AWOL. And Brandon’s making her crazy in all the right ways.

When their tequila-fueled make-out session hits the tabloids, Brandon is furious. At least until he realizes his “relationship” with Daisy is his chance to get his ill mother to Los Angeles for treatment. All he has to do is convince Daisy to be his pretend fiancée for two weeks…

The deal? No sex and no falling in love. But all it takes is a little heat to find themselves in a deliciously compromising position…

Excerpt:

Brandon laughed even harder. So hard that she could see tears in his eyes. As much as she liked seeing his mood lift, she hated to be the source of his amusement. Familiar pricks of annoyance stabbed at the back of her neck. “I don’t see what’s so funny.”

“It’s just…you try to act like you’re this tough, independent woman, and it turns out you’re not so tough after all. It’s…satisfying.”

Her irritation shot to threat level orange. “Whatever. You’re not perfect either.”

“I never said I was.”

Daisy slapped a hand on the bar. “Are you kidding me? Your whole life is about projecting perfection. Your hair, this suit, your car…the women you date. I’d be careful if I were you, Brandon. If you date any more Barbies, the tabloids are going to start calling you Ken. And we all know what poor Ken was missing.”

She lowered her eyes to his crotch and Brandon followed them. Then his head snapped back up and his laser stare went straight to her lips. “Trust me. The Barbies have no complaints. But if you don’t believe me, I’m happy to prove it to you, since I know you’ve been wondering.”

Invisible flames rushed up her face, burning her with both embarrassment and lust. She knew it had been a bad idea to drink with Brandon. She’d become too loose, too comfortable. And—before they started talking about his mom—she had started to become a little turned on. Damn alcohol.

Still, there was no way in hell she would ever admit he’d come close to the truth. He’d make fun of her again. Or worse, he’d sleep with her and then in the morning do whatever he could to make the situation go away.

Daisy had been tossed aside by enough people in her life. She wasn’t about to add a celebrity restaurant owner to the list. “Sorry, buddy. But there’s not enough tequila in this world.”

She watched his jaw muscle tense and knew she hit a nerve. Then his expression relaxed. “Suit yourself,” he said with a shrug before finally downing his shot. “Anyway, we both know you’re not my type. I like my women a little less bossy.”

Angry, mortified, and tipsy, Daisy jumped off the stool and bent to pick up her shoes. She tried to think of one last snarky comeback to toss at him before storming out of the bar. But when she stood back up, she couldn’t even form the words. It wasn’t her temper that left her speechless—it was the sight, just beyond Brandon’s shoulder, of her ex and that bruja Ginger snuggling in a corner booth.

Brandon noticed her still standing there and waved his hand. “Hello? I thought you were leaving?”

Daisy dropped her shoes and quickly slid her stool out of the way so she could reach to pull his hand down. That’s when Luis caught her eye and waved. “Great. Just great,” she muttered. “Now he knows I’m here.”

“Who knows?” Brandon moved as if to turn his head to see who Daisy was staring at.

“No. Don’t look.”

But it was too late. Brandon looked and then Luis awkwardly waved at him, too. He whispered something in Ginger’s ear and she nodded. Daisy watched as her ex called the waitress over. Her stomach sank. They were going to come over for a chat. She knew it. It had been awful enough to have to fake a smile every time she ran into them during the reception. But now, with a few tequila shots in her, Daisy doubted she could playact one more time. She was fired up from the last rumble with Brandon, in more ways than one.

There was no telling what she’d do if that witch waved her gaudy ring in front of her again. It would be bad for her to make a scene, or worse, get thrown out for making a scene. How could she hope to plan another wedding at the hotel if the owners had a restraining order against her?

She needed a buffer. Something or someone to make sure that she didn’t make a complete ass of herself.

That’s when the most ridiculous idea popped into Daisy’s head. So ridiculous she had to cover her mouth to stifle the giggle threatening to erupt. The man was dealing with the news that his mom had cancer. He’d probably never go for it. But as she watched Luis pay his tab, her ridiculous idea started sounding better and better.

“Kiss me,” she blurted to Brandon as Luis and Ginger stood up from their table.

Brandon choked on the drink he’d just taken. “Excuse me?”

“Look, I hate being that girl but, screw it, I am. So kiss me.”

“You just said there wasn’t enough tequila in the world.”

“Yeah, well. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Kiss my lips. Now.”

“Desperate? Forget it. You’re crazy if you think I’m going to kiss you after you just insulted me.”

“Oh my God. Would you do something useful with that tongue of yours for once and kiss—”

Brandon pulled her toward him and kissed her—hard—and his mouth swallowed up the rest of her sentence. At first, she was too shocked to kiss him back. Her eyes had been focused on Luis and Ginger walking toward them. But as Brandon’s warm tongue pressed forward, seeking entry, she no longer saw anything or anyone. She opened to him and he released a low groan that weakened her knees. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and he pulled her further into his chest. Her heart thumped madly as the rest of her body hummed with desire.

Holy hell. She wanted Brandon. Bad.

The sound of someone clearing his throat jerked her back into consciousness and she pulled her tongue of Brandon’s mouth. Their eyes met briefly and the desire reflected in his gaze sent another blast of heat through her. She turned away so as to not melt into his arms one more time, and faced an uncomfortable-looking Luis and an open-mouthed Ginger.

“Oh, hey guys. Are you heading home now?” She tried to sound nonchalant despite the fact Brandon had pulled her backward until she stood between his legs and hooked one of his arms around her waist.

“Yeah. We decided to have one last nightcap,” Luis said. He smiled at her but his eyes fell on Brandon.

The two couples stood there in silence for a few seconds before Luis reached out his hand to Brandon. “I don’t think we’ve met. I’m Luis Arroyo and this is my fiancée Ginger Soto.”

Brandon uncurled his arm from Daisy and shook Luis’s hand. “Good to meet you. I’m Brandon Montoya, Daisy’s boyfriend.”

Soundtrack for “The Geek and His Artist” by Hope Ryan

Hello folks! First, let me thank Nikki for giving me blog space today! I really appreciate the opportunity to stop by.

Every story I write has a soundtrack. The number of songs on the playlist varies—partly because some stories require more, but sometimes there just aren’t as many that apply. When I sat down to put the list together for The Geek and His Artist, I had to really think about what to put on the list.

I have a rather eclectic taste when it comes to music. But I tend to stick with bands like Godsmack, Nickleback, Linkin Park, and the like. I realized, however, that my teenagers in Geek aren’t necessarily going to listen them. So what, then, did I put on this list?

Well, I went first to my oldest son, who was closest in age to Jimmy and Simon—and who would likely have musical taste closer to them. He asked me what kind of guys Jimmy and Simon and their friends were, what were they like and then gave me an interesting list of possibilities. I whittled them down a bit to come up with the playlist I have here.

A few of the songs have special significance to me. As a bisexual, I sometimes get frustrated when I don’t see them represented in media. In Geek, I have two bisexual characters (side characters who will likely get their own story): Sean and Kip. So, when I came across the Panic! At The Disco song, Girls/Girls/Boys, I was thrilled.

Another of the songs that really resonated with me because Simon’s theme song. Now, there have been a few versions of this out there, but the rendition of “Mad World” I like the most comes from Gary Jules. The music, the tempo, all of it really makes me think of Simon’s sad, confused, lonely world.

Simon Williams spends his lunch periods drawing his geek and trying not to think about the terrors waiting for him at home. He needs to get away from his abusive father before he suffers the same grisly fate as his mother. Because he’s learned the hard way running away doesn’t work, he’s counting the days until his eighteenth birthday.

Jimmy Bennet should be spending his lunch studying so his senior GPA is good enough to get him into college, but he can’t seem to focus thanks to his distracting artist. When he’s given the opportunity to tutor Simon in Trig and discovers Simon’s home-life nightmare, he wants nothing more than to get Simon out of danger. This need becomes more urgent when Simon comes to school the Monday after their first date with bruises, but it takes a broken leg before Jimmy can convince his boyfriend the Bennets really want him.

But the danger Simon thought was past shows up at the most unexpected time, and he must stand up to the fears he’s held so long to protect not only himself, but the man he wants to spend his life with.

Swagger.jpg

Nine years, two lives, one love.

We all have dreams. Mine were filled with college and the boy I loved, Cruz Montoya. But all that went up with smoke when he got sent to Juvenile Hall, my sister killed herself, and Dad up and left. My mother and I use that terminology loosely became a monster transferring her pains and disappointment and I became trapped.

Honorably discharged I’m back in Arlington Heights, the small town that only remembers the black sheep persona of my youth. I could list a dozen reasons for my return, but the only one that matters is Roxanne Waters. I should probably leave her be. I’m not much of a catch with PTSD and the childhood memories rattling around in my brain. Yet, I can’t walk away. There’s a darkness that surrounds the death of her sister, a secrets that’s slowly killing her. I’m going to find out everything. This is the moment of truth to see if we can make it or if I’m nine years too late.

Interview with Nikki

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? I don’t remember. LOL However, I think it might have been when I was around 8. They used to do these book fairs at our school and we each had to write a book and put it together for parents and other teachers to see. A lot of my classmates hated the whole thing but I loved it! My mom still has my first books. *grin*

How long does it take you to write a book?

It depends. Many factors come into play when I write but it can take anything from a week to months.

What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?

Hectic. I don’t really have a work schedule or a process so I write when I can (usually sacrificing sleep and going to bed at 3am). I probably should get a schedule and be more organized but… it’s a work in progress.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

Interesting writing quirk? Does writing with music count? I usually prefer writing with music than in absolute silence. The words flow better and it’s a constant source of inspiration.

Tell us about your newest release. Blind Beauty is book 2 in the Witches’ Mischief series (Book 1 is The Golden Cock) and it is a Naughty Fairy Tale. Based on The Ugly Duckling, it tells the story of James and Richard. Tired of being mocked for his appearance, James is on his way to his new home away from everybody and everyone when he meets a certain witch and soon after gets lost in the forest… Eventually, he’ll meet Richard.

What can the readers expect from you in the near future. Well, I’m currently working on the 3rd book in the Witches’ Mischief Series and hope to submit it soon. After that, I have two other ideas in mind, one of them for an anthology featuring the 7 sins. You know of what I speak, Nikki.  *grin*

Book Excerpt

He climbed atop his horse, as told. His back molded to Richard’s, his body betraying him as it molded into the other man’s embrace. Richard pulled him hard against him, his body enveloping him in an almost suffocating hug.

“Go,” he whispered huskily into his ear, his breath fanning it. James pressed his thighs against Faith’s flanks, hoping the animal would understand, considering the strange position she was in. She did, for she set off at a trot in the direction Richard indicated. They galloped in silence, trees whirring past them, snow flying when they swept past. James eyes widened and he barely controlled the urge to order Faith to stop as he realized their impasse.

“Richard, the hoof prints, the snow.” James pointed at the visible trail. “They’ll track us down as easily as the king’s hounds trace a fox.”

Richard’s breath was warm in his ear. His hair tickled his temple and James had to suppress a shiver.

“I know.” Richard chuckled. “Don’t worry. I have a plan, besides wishing that they’ll wake up during the night and we’ll be miles away by then or that it snows heavily again.”

James wished he didn’t have to worry, but he couldn’t relax. The problem wasn’t so much the thieves that could pursue them at any moment, but the man behind him. He was too close, too comforting, and all too desirable. James shifted in his seat again, trying to find a comfortable position. One in which he wasn’t pressed up tightly against Richard’s groin. One in which he didn’t imagine he felt the length of his cock hard against him. Because, he was convinced it was his imagination. Otherwise, how could a man like Richard be interested in him? It didn’t make any sense. In his experience, men like Richard were ladies’ men. They seduced, fucked and discarded women. He wasn’t a woman and he’d been rejected too many times in his life. He didn’t need this. He didn’t need more pain. Richard’s fingers brushed against his side, the fingers digging into his flesh and distracting him as arousal flared in every centimeter of his flesh.

“What got you into thievery?” he asked, attempting to forget how close their bodies were.

Richard grunted in reply and he fell silent once more, fishing his mind for a topic of conversation. It came up blank. He thought about asking Richard to stop. Faith was probably tiring though she didn’t show it and surely, they were safe by now. He should ask. James knew he should, but he couldn’t. He was losing his mind, falling prey to the liquid fire that was consuming him inside and outside. He wasn’t sure if the man was hard, but he was. His cock was stiff and throbbing, the idea of taking or being taken by Richard flashing through his mind every time Faith bounced.

What would it feel like?

Flesh both silky and hard as steel brushing against him, an intimate caress, deep and longing. They’d become one man, writhing, gasping, and moaning. James’ breath hitched, the tightness in his breeches becoming uncomfortable. He clenched his teeth together and grasped the reins so tightly the material cut into his hands. He scrambled to regain his bearings, to remember whom he was with and what had occurred in the last 48 hours. He couldn’t trust Richard, but neither could he trust his treacherous body. He was not a beautiful man. Surely the thief didn’t want him. The thief. That’s right, Richard was a thief. He had no morals, no scruples, no—James groaned as Faith skipped over a fallen log, throwing Richard’s body against him, the erection he was sure he was imagining grinding against his bottom.

Ladies Uncorked

There’s a reason the room on the ladies only wine tour is so cheap… There’s only one bed!

But it’s big enough for three…

Blurb:

Girls just wanna have fun and what better way to do that than a weekend wine tour? Rozella needs a break from caring for her mother and her friend Nicole is newly single and in need of a respite from her own troubles.

Their eagerness turns to mild dismay, however, when they discover they got a great deal on a fancy hotel room only because they’re apparently sharing a bed…a bed big enough for three. Will they make use of it? They may have a willing bedmate in the form of a sexy tour guide. But first, they must uncork their inhibitions.

Excerpt:

His gaze perused first Nicole, then Rozella, the glint in his eyes appreciative. Rozella busied herself pouring him a glass of wine. She willed her hands not to shake as she offered him the glass. “You’ve been left out of the festivities. I’m sure you’d like to make up for it now.”

He accepted the glass with a twitch at the corners of his mouth. “Yes, I assume I will.” He watched her as he took his first sip. Rozella saw the moisture of the wine on his lips and fought the urge to lick them. But then again, what was stopping her? Isn’t that what he was here for? Did they really want to waste time with their life stories?

As Nicole led him to the bed and sat down with him, her own wine glass in hand, Rozella decided not. They weren’t interested in life stories tonight. The sexual tension in the air was palpable.

She grabbed her own wine glass and gulped greedily, watching as Nicole set her own aside to place one hand on Blake’s thigh and one on his back, leaning in close. The whitish-gold liquid stung her throat and caused her eyes to tear. She wasn’t used to drinking so quickly, and the wine from Vespera’s was more potent than a store bought vintage.

Nicole and Blake were whispering to each other, smiles lighting their faces. Rozella set her glass down, grabbed the wine bottle, and approached them. She gestured to Blake’s empty glass as she held the bottle out. “More?”

“No.” He grinned, set his glass on the nightstand, and rose to stand before her. His chest was almost touching hers. Her nipples hardened beneath the material of her dress. “Maybe after,” he murmured right before he caught her mouth with his own.

Maya DeLeina-Erotic Vampire Author

The author will be giving away a copy of Blood of Luna to a lucky commenter who leaves his or her email.
Welcome Maya it is a pleasure to have you here!

I am Erotic Vampire Author Maya DeLeina.

My favorite time of the year has passed, but it doesn’t mean that since Halloween is gone, vampires and paranormal creepiness are void from my life. Visions of vampires fill my head that have my fingers working non-stop on my laptop keys. In fact, for my new WIP, I am taking the fantasy world of vampires up a notch and adding some new elements.  But before I start revealing more about my WIP, get to know my latest release and see if the world I create is something you want to sink your teeth into.

Read the reviews, blurb and excerpt on Blood of Luna:

Reviews:

“This was a romance with plenty of twists and turns, a bit of a spooky edge and not to mention lots of steamy scenes that make you want a man like Trevor in your life. The scene with the “rubber” men was quite freaky, I don’t think I have ever found a read that actually unnerved me a little bit as this one did in that scene and to find out what they actually were was quite sad.

I wasn’t quite sure where the read was going at the start with the Prologue, starting off with Luna and Renny, then the entire read being about Trevor and Luna, but once you reach the very end you get enlightened to the whole situation. I did not see the ending panning out the way it did; the truth unraveling and everything being revealed as to the story behind Trevor and Luna’s connection, then the whole story got turned on its head yet again in the Epilogue!

The way this author writes is so smooth and enthralling; the whole story flows so perfectly and always keeps you guessing. It was a tough decision trying to rate this one, but I have decided on three and a half stars bordering very close to four stars.”-Book Devotee Reviews

“Paranormal erotic romance with a slice of spooky and a full helping of WTF is what I call this read.”

“Rubber men?! I keep thinking of the rubber man from American Horror Story, one of the creepiest things I have ever seen *shivers*”

“The “rubber” men were not only a bit freaky, they were probably one of the more original bad guys I have read about in a book. It does have a bit of a horror edge to it.”

Blurb:

When is it real? When is it fantasy?

For Luna Kalen, the line between reality and a dream is hard to recognize.

Recovering from a car accident, the solitude at the coast is meant to be therapeutic. But Luna soon finds it more than her idle mind can handle.

After exploring a dangerous stretch of shoreline, Luna returns home with a mysterious man she discovers in a cave. Little does Luna know that this man is about to fill her world with sinful pleasures…and blood-thirsty vampires.

When reality and fantasy collide, unimaginable dangers lurk, revelations are revealed, and darkest desires are fulfilled. But if you think the happily ever after is the sign of the ending, it’s really only the beginning.

Should Luna have listened to the warning?

Excerpt

Flood of emotions hit me like a tidal wave. I was relieved. Then I was angry. And then I grew scared. As I first suspected, there was something else besides Trevor in that cave. And since he felt the need to hide where he was going from me, the thought of what could be in the cave sent shivers down my spine.

“Luna?” Trevor’s voice echoed from within the confines of the cave.

I walked up closer to the cave and situated myself at the entrance. I couldn’t see his face to understand his emotions, but the sound of his voice said it all.

He was downright pissed.

“Trevor?”

“What the hell are you doing following me? I thought you were cooking!”

“Why did you come back here? What is in there that you are not telling me about?”

“You weren’t supposed to come here, Luna. You’re supposed to be cooking.”

“Tell me what’s going on. You owe me that!”

Trevor stepped out from the darkness to reveal himself to me. I scanned him up and down. The white shirt he had worn when he left the house no more than fifteen minutes ago was completely gone. He stood bare-chested with his shoes and slacks on. Oddly, his suspenders were still in place, wrapping around his flawless bare skin deliciously. And his ivy cap still dressed his head.

Then I looked in his eyes.

Far from what I was expecting, his eyes were cold and expressionless. Even further from my expectation was the deafening and awkward silence between us.

Not one word was spoken in response from Trevor.

I remained unusually silent trying to process what was going on.

While Trevor didn’t speak, there was a definite energy flowing from the cave’s depth that resonated in an eerie hum. Instinctively, I squinted in concentration, scanning the dark emptiness behind Trevor to make out the sound.

What I heard started off very faint but persistent. It was like I was back in the thick of my hectic morning commute, a combination of competing sounds of idling engines, conversation murmurs, blaring horns, and thumping music causing an indiscernible drone. Mounting and intensifying, the sound began to scare me.

And when I settled my eyes back on Trevor, the uneasiness in his body language and the anxiety in his expression made me freeze in terror.

Trevor dropped his head in an apparent air of defeat.

“Trevor?” I whispered.

Trevor raised his head and locked eyes with me.

“You were supposed to be cooking, Luna,” he whispered. His eyes began to tear. He took a deep breath in and released it slowly. “Keep absolutely still, or else you’ll send them into attack mode. I will try everything possible to protect you.”

I just nodded my head to acknowledge that I heard what he said. But I didn’t understand a word he said. I imagined my face must’ve had a terrible expression of fright right after the words came out of his mouth since he did everything in his power to calm me.

“Shh, Luna. Stay calm. I won’t let them hurt you.”

Trevor looked up and scanned the roof of the cave. My eyes followed his and scanned the space feverishly, not quite certain what I was looking for. Then he turned his head to the side. He looked back as far as his neck could stretch as the once faint hum was now a racket of bloodcurdling screams, eerie moans, and howling.

“They’re coming. Be brave.”

My heart pounded in my chest. I felt my knees go weak, and I became light-headed with the rush of adrenaline.

Who were “they”?

A rush of movement exploded from the darkness so quickly and overwhelmingly that I couldn’t process what was coming for me. Blackness swirled in chaos around my body, and the sounds emitted by the vortex-like cloud sounded like something from the pit of hell. I felt a cold dampness enveloping my body. A rubber, sponge-like feeling pressed and slid across my skin. Then, my body rose straight from the ground. My stomach dipped with nervous energy. I looked down and could see the sand peering out from behind the swirling blackness.

“Trevor? What’s happening?”

“They’re moving us into the cave. We’re going to their world now.”

NP-What do you admire in him/her?

Alana: His loyalty.

Cristian: Her passion.

NP-Boxers or Briefs?

Alana: That one is for you. *grins*

Cristian: *scowls* Neither.

NP-What makes you smile about hero/heroine?

Alana: *looks at Cristian who is still scowling* That look right there.

Cristian: *scowl darkens*

NP-What makes you heroic?

Cristian: I’m no hero.

Alana: He is.

NP-What is your nickname?

Alana: I love it when Cristian calls me “Doc”. I’m a surgeon.

NP-Do you have any hobbies?

Alana: Between my work at the hospital and my volunteer work I don’t have time for hobbies.

Cristian: She works too damn hard.

Alana: That’s what you love about me.

*Cristian scowls*

NP-What’s your fave food?

Alana: Anything Cristian cooks for me.

NP-What is the thing that has frightened you most? Do you think there is anything out there that’s scarier than that? What do you think that would be?

Alana: *slips her hand in Cristians* Believing I could kill someone. I never want to face that again. Nothing is scarier than facing the darkest part of yourself.

NP-How private of a person are you? Why?

Cristian: *holds Alana’s hand on his thigh* Very. Are we almost finished here?

NP-What do you think of your author?

Cristian: Jennifer likes to push the limits. I respect her for that. Alana’s just off a twenty-hour shift and I’m just back from a mission. Time to wrap this up. *he helps Alana up, puts an arm around her and they walk from the room*

Thanks for having me today, Nikki!! I had fun! And to my readers out there I just want to say THANK YOU! I wouldn’t be here without you! My wish is to one day meet each and every one of you so I can personally thank you for your generosity and support.

All my best,

Jennifer

Excerpt:

Prepared to start an IV, she picked up a needle. She had it in position when his other arm shot out and he clamped her wrist in a bone-crushing grip. Startled, she met his panicked gaze.

“I said no needles.”

Her heart banged against her ribcage as she let the needle slip out of her hand. It hit the floor with a small ting. Alana opened her hands in surrender, her patient’s fingers digging into her flesh. For a man half-dead, he had amazing strength.

“Okay,” she said to placate him. “Relax, I don’t have it anymore. It’s your choice, but I recommend you let me start an IV for meds.”

“No. Just fix me.”

Alana pinned him with a no nonsense stare. “I’m not impressed with Superman heroics.”

Face pale and drawn, he said gruffly, “I’m not Superman. Learned not to trust people with needles.”

Her fingers were going numb. “If I remove the bullet without pain medication or anesthetic, you’re going to be sorry.”

He studied her. “You’re really a doctor?”

Alana bristled. “Technically, yes.”

“Technically?”

She didn’t have time to explain herself with the amount of blood seeping from his gunshot wound. “I went to med school. You can let go of my arm now. I won’t use any needles.”

He looked down and immediately released his grip. She rubbed her wrist to soothe away the ache. “Can I get to work now, or do you want to question me more about my credentials while you bleed to death? I don’t have a blood bank, so you’re screwed if you lose too much.”

Her blunt statement received a curt nod. She normally didn’t talk to her patients like that. Her patients didn’t normally countermand her either.

“Do it,” he said.

“Without anesthetics?”

“I don’t need them. Just get it over with.”

Stubborn, stupid, or both? Insane, yes, but there wasn’t time to argue with him.

“Okay. The offer stands if you change your mind.”

“I won’t.”

She doubted that, but didn’t comment. Instead, wiped her forehead with her forearm, and picked up gauze pads to clean the wound.

“Here goes,” she warned and dabbed his skin.

Her patient didn’t move or even wince as she cleaned the angry wound. Either he had a will of steel or he’d passed out again. Hopefully, the latter. Sweat rolled down her back as she finished cleansing the area around the bullet entry. Red flesh puckered with the first signs of infection. In this environment infection was guaranteed.

With a steady hand that would have made her father proud, she picked up her instruments and took a deep breath.

“You still with me?”

He murmured a response, turning his head slightly so he could see her. The stark beauty of his profile, despite the bruises, struck her again. The lines of his face were chiseled, unforgiving. The kind of man she’d glance at twice if she passed him on the street.

A man associated with a criminal.

“Still here, Doc. What are you waiting for?” Husky with pain, his deep voice brought her out of her thoughts.

She gave herself a mental shake. “Want something to bite down on?”

A small, wry smile touched his lips and his lids closed. “You won’t hear a peep out of me. Just fix me, Doc.”

“I can hit you so you’ll sleep through it,” she muttered.

That drew a low chuckle from him. She didn’t expect him to have a sense of humor. He seemed too…hard. His chuckle turned into a grunt of pain. “You probably hit like a girl.”

Alana grinned. “Yes, I do. Rest assured it won’t feel like it.”

“Appreciate the offer, but, no.” His words slurred together, his muscles tense as he fought his body’s demands.

“You got a name, Superman?”

His head rolled to the side, his chest rose and fell slowly. She thought he was out but he murmured, “Cristian.”

“Nice to meet you, Cristian.”

Then she dug into the wound for the bullet.

Guest blogger: Shyla Colt with newest book: Cursed

Please leave a comment with email if you want to be entered into the giveaway!

Hello All :Waves: First off I’d like to thank, Nikki for letting me stop by and chat to you all about my new release, Cursed due out on October first. This is my first in the Edgeworth Men series, and I’ll be doing a blog hop focused around the town the book is set in, Baxter. I’ll be giving away a prize every week, so be sure to comment to win.

Good Luck, Shyla

Welcome to Baxter where everyone knows everyone’s name…. and their business. Deep in the heart of Mississippi this town has had a rash of broken heart’s caused by the Edgeworth boys, and rumor has it, it’s not their fault. Their great-great-great granpa got them in a heap of trouble when he bamboozled a local witch and jumped town with her money. Since then every man in the Edgeworth family has had crap luck in love. You’d think the towns women would stay clear of them but once they share that flirtatious wink, show those dimples, and turn on the charm … you’re sunk. Around here one of the most popular places for dining is, Hog Heaven. The BBQ is so good, it’ll make you smack your mama, and the atmosphere is casual, perfect for warding off those first date jitters. Come and see what part it played in Cursed for Avalyn, and Colton. Be sure to comment and win for a chance to win a Hog Heaven Gift set.

Summary
It’s common knowledge the Edgeworth men are unlucky in love.  Great, great, grandpa bought them a one way ticket to heart break when he romanced the local witch’s daughter, took her money and disappeared off into the sunset. Ashamed the Voiless moved away, until now. As the eldest son, it’s up to him to persuade the Voiles women to remove the curse.  He realizes quickly he wants to keep, Avalyn Voiles for himself.  Now he just needs to make her believe his affections are real and overcome decades of bad blood…

Avalyn’s spent her whole life hearing her grandmother bad mouth the Edgeworth family. So, the last thing she expects when she returns to Baxter, was for the witty, charming, sexy Colton to be her perfect match.  Should she take a chance on love and risk history repeating itself?

Excerpt:

Fifteen minutes later, they were in front of Hog Heaven. She couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose up at the name and the apron-wearing pig with a chef’s hat that graced the giant sign in front of the tiny building. Smoke curled up from the back, and she guessed they had a smoker of some kind.

“Now don’t let the tiny building or the name fool you. This is the best barbecue you will ever taste. The meat melts right off the bone, and it’s smoked to perfection and bursting with flavor.” Excitement filled his tone, and his face looked almost reverent. “The sauces range from tangy to sweet and hot to mild, so there’s sure to be one that’s just right for you.”

“With a recommendation like that, I can’t wait to get in there.”

“I hope you don’t mind eating with your hands, because that’s the only way to do it justice.”

“I don’t have a problem with getting my hands dirty.”

“Good to know,” he said.

He led her inside, and she was amazed at the amount of people packed into the small space. The delectable scent that assaulted her nose the moment they entered took away all her doubts. Any place that smelled this good was sure to be a slice of heaven. There were brown picnic benches covered with red table cloths taking up every inch. On each table was a roll of paper towels and a metal basket filled with an array of sauces ranging from yellow to a ruby-red you couldn’t pay her to touch. She liked heat, but that looked downright deadly. Colton followed her line of sight and grinned.

“That’s the devil’s brew. I don’t recommend it unless you’re into pain.”

She laughed out loud as they entered the line of people waiting to grab a seat. It was obvious this was a popular place among the locals. “I’m gonna have to pass on that one.”

 “Smart girl.”

They reached the end of the line and stood in front of the cash register. The meat was lined up and displayed on a carving station. She licked her lips and decided on the brisket plate with potato salad and an ice-cold sweet tea. No one produced sweet tea like the south, and she’d missed the sugary substance when they lived up North. It was served in a Mason jar with a healthy wedge of lemon. When they had piles of meaty goodness and sides on their plates, they chose a table toward the back, where it was less crowded.

“We have nicer places here in Baxter, but I figured if I was supposed to be showing you the town, local, home-cooked cuisine would be a better fit.”

“If it tastes half as good as it smells, this place will have a new regular.”

He chuckled, and a lapse in the conversation came as they prepared their food. She went with the hickory brown sugar sauce on her brisket. The meat was tender and moist, and combined with the sauce, it had her closing her eyes and moaning. The smoky meat’s sweet flavor was downright orgasmic. She could feel the calories piling on top of each other. She opened her eyes and found Colton’s gaze fixed on her. Heat blossomed in her cheeks, and she cleared her throat.

“What?”

“Nothing. I like a woman who can eat.”

She smirked. “I’m southern. I thought enjoying fatty foods was a requirement of girls raised in the south. ”

“You’d be surprised.”

Her head filled with thoughts of waif women who munched on salad and sipped on water with lemon. She suppressed a shudder. That was no way to live. She was a meat and potatoes kind of girl and liked her curves, thank you very much. She was proud of the bodacious Voiles butt and child-bearing hips she’d inherited. Unlike some, she was fortunate to have strong women in her life who taught her to buck tradition and love her form and her being for what it was. Because of all the people in the world, there was only one Avalyn Rae Voiles, and no one could do her better.

The eye roll that accompanied Colton’s statement earned him a few more brownie points. She liked what she saw so far, but she needed to test the waters.

Fifteen minutes later, their plates were clear and she was taking a blind leap.

“So, I heard the local woods here are haunted. Is there any truth to that?” She took a giant gulp of sweet tea to bolster her courage and glanced up. He chuckled and shook his head.

“I’ve never seen anything suspicious there myself, but if you ask me, there are supernatural beings out there living among us.

She arched an eyebrow. “That’s smart thinking.”

“Well, I was top in my class.”

She laughed and relaxed. Well, he was open-minded at least. That was a start.

“Why? Do you have experiences with ghosts you feel like sharing?”

“Maybe?” She glanced up and cast a sly smile in his direction.

“A women of mystery, huh? I can respect that.”

His voice washed over her like liquor. The rich tone danced along her nerves, making her nipples harden and her thighs tingle. He made her want to forget her raising and head home with him for a night of smex. Better than your average lay, smex was a nasty, dirty, no-holds-barred ride to completion. He had bigger than average feet. She knew because she’d looked. It had her mind drifting to thoughts of what those thick, calloused fingers of his would feel like over her flesh. Avalyn shifted in her seat as her mind began to fill with images totally inappropriate for the dinner table. She was a woman in the middle of a draught so long she could barely remember what it felt like to be full of a stiff cock. She licked her lips and tried not to leer as she focused on the conversation once more. A quick romp was something she could’ve had years ago. What she wanted involved rings and vows, or at the least a long term commitment.

“So what brings you to Baxter? It’s not a city people flock to. It’s more of a town you grow up in and never leave.”

 “You don’t like it here?”

“No, I love it. This place has spoiled me for living anywhere else. We’re a hidden jewel. I think the hidden part is why we remain unchanged by outside influence.”

“My family is originally from here, but we branched out a few decades back to live a couple states over. My gran and my mom suddenly got the itch to rediscover our roots. The next thing I know, we’re headed back to the original Voiles homestead and buying a space out on Main Street for the store. Not that I minded really. I was tired of life in the city, and smaller towns tend to look on what we do with a kinder eye.”

“What’s that?” he asked.

“Make things from scratch and do our best to heal people. Maybe make this world a better place one person at a time.” She shrugged, embarrassed by her rant.

“I like that,” he said. A soft smile curved his cupid bow’s pink lips, and she felt herself melt just a little more. “Lord knows the world’s got enough negativity in it.”

“I like you more and more with every word you speak. That’s a rare gift you should share with the rest of your brethren.”

His cheeks reddened, and she swore she saw panic in his widened eyes. “My brethren.”

“Yes, men. They tend to put their feet in their mouths at least seventy-five-percent of the time.”

“Oh, them.” He laughed, but it sounded thin and reedy. It was obviously forced. Avalyn wanted to ask him what he’d thought she meant, but she didn’t want to ruin the wonderful report they had going because of a silly, misunderstanding.

“As much as I’d like to speak for my entire sex, I’m going to have to decline. I can’t even get my younger brothers to listen to me. Forget the entire world.”

She laughed. “How many brothers do you have?”

“Two. Too many.”

“Come on, you don’t mean that, do you?”

“Most of the time, no. Sometimes…” He trailed off and shrugged. “What about you? Do you have any siblings?”

“No. Despite how many times I asked my mother to give me a brother for Christmas, it never happened.”

He sniggered and shook his head.

She glanced down at her watch and sighed. “I’m enjoying this, but I need to head back to the shop soon.”

“I understand how it is when you own your own business. I’ll go settle the bill.”

She opened her mouth only to clamp it shut when he shot her a glare.

“Don’t you dare spout any Yankee nonsense about splitting the cost. I asked you out, and you accepted, so I’m paying.”

“Yes sir.” She gave a mock salute.
